Genetic Trait Calculator
Estimate potential offspring traits based on Mendelian genetics for common chicken characteristics.
Rose (R) & Pea (P) are dominant over single (r). Rose + Pea = Walnut. Assumes heterozygous (Rr, Pp) unless specified.
Phenotype: The observable characteristic (e.g., Rose comb).
Genotype: The genetic makeup (e.g., Rr).
Dominant Allele: Expressed if at least one copy is present (e.g., R for Rose comb).
Recessive Allele: Only expressed if two copies are present (e.g., r for single comb).
Incomplete Dominance: Heterozygous genotype results in an intermediate phenotype (e.g., Blue feathering).
This calculator uses simplified models. Real avian genetics can be far more complex, involving multiple genes, linkage, and environmental factors.
Results are probabilities, not guarantees for small sample sizes (e.g., a single clutch of chicks).
For "Rose (R)" or "Pea (P)" selections, the calculator often assumes a heterozygous state (Rr or Pp) for broader predictions unless a specific homozygous option is chosen or implied.
